A New Year

I believe that the new year is a time for new beginnings. So, in honor of that, I have decided to revamp my blog. Although I do love my tumblr, I have decided that I need a space to write longer posts about things that I experience.

First let me review with you, the reader, my 2009 New Year's Resolution. It is one overall resolution that breaks down into a series of very specific things to accomplish. Here goes...

Be More Selfish

While this sounds like the antithesis of a New Year's Resolution (and it kind of is) allow me some time to break it down for you. My outcome with this resolution is to actually become a better person, take more time for myself, and make myself into the person I really want to be. Let's just be honest here for a minute- I work A LOT and I know I work a lot. And seriousy...my job does not pay me enough to care the way I do. And often my personal life suffers. And I have become a person that I no longer wish to be. So, this year I am taking steps to overcome the struggles I have had in 2008 to be more like the person I WAS and the person I wish to become.

Broken down, my New Year's Resolution includes:

1. Working less - I resolve to leave work on time! I will not stay late unless required. And I will not stay late more than once a week.

2. Spending more time on things I love - I have set a goal for myself to read at least 40 books this year. I read 24 books in 2008 and wish to up it to 40 for 2009. I want to see more movies (aka actually use the Netlix that I pay for). I want to read more magazines. I want to visit more historical sites. I want to spend more time with friends.

3. Taking better care of myself - I actually did a decent job at this resolution from last year: I went to the doctor, eye doctor, dentist, joined a gym, and lost ten pounds! But, I need to spend more time, make a more conscience effort to take care of myself. Even if it is as simple as making sure I get enough sleep every night.

So, that's that!

This blog is a place for me to share with you, my readers, my experiences with this resolution. I will tell you about movies I see, books I read, friends I spend time with, and places I visit.

Get Excited!

Ouch

So I had my last cavaties filled this morning. It went really well and I was done super fast. Two cavaties and my cleaning and I was out of there in just over an hour.

But now I'm hungry 'cause I haven't eaten since breakfast, and my jaw hurts. :(

Being lazy...

I was supposed to run errands and go to the gym today, but instead I was lazy and came home right after work. :(

But, I did make a good dinner of taco salad. But I'm not so secretly still hungry.

sad.

And I can't go tomorrow because it's TRIVIA night!!!! :) I need to find people to go with me. :( Most of coworkers are bailing...cause they're lame.

This Weekend

I have had a really good weekend.

I did nothing yesterday, literally nothing. It was amazing. Last night though I went to dinner with Jenny and her parents, which was great. We went to this Italian restaurant, which was amazing! But very much not WW friendly, so I ordered a pasta dish, ate about a third of it and gave the leftovers to Jenny. I thought it was a pretty good decision. After dinner Jenny, her friend Sara, and I went to The High Dive, a bar down the street from her. It was fun. I went home early, after dropping to two of them off downtown.

Today, I was more productive. I picked up my living room, did the dishes, ate leftovers for lunch (if you know me, you know what an accomplishment that is), did three loads of laundry, and watched a bunch of ridiculous movies on tv. It's been really good. Oh, and of course I called my dad and wished him a Happy Father's Day. He said my mother made him scrambled eggs and fish roe for breakfast, his favorite- which btw is the grossest thing EVER. Seriously it's poor man's caviar and eggs? Yuck.

Plans for this coming week:
Trivia on Tuesday
Warped Tour of Friday

:) YAY!

First Steps

While re-evaluating my top 25 last night, I was brainstorming the first steps I need to take to reach them. Well, I decided in order to help me make healthier food choices that I should go back to Weight Watchers. Which I did tonight!

And I'm going to stick to it too!

Revised Top 25

2008 is the year that I will turn 25. I put together a list back in January of 25 things to accomplish before my birthday. I reflected on it and realized I set my expectations ridiculously high, so I revised it. Here is my actual list.

I've bolded the ones that I have already accomplished.

1. Start a savings plan.
I really have! With a couple of different goals for my money. Goal one: hypo-allergenic cat. We'll see how it goes.

2. Organize my life.

3. Start eating at least one new vegetable. Any suggestions?

4. Go to the gym regularly. Workin' on it...I have good weeks and bad weeks...

5. Go to the doctor more often.
I've been to the eye doctor, the dentist, and I have a physical scheduled for late July. :)

6. Volunteer.

7. Perform random acts of kindness.

8. Take up a new hobby.
TRIVIA! We're going to go regularly.

9. Join a book club.
Thanks to my sister and Steven!

10. Start a bunco group.
Well...I started it...but it kind of died. I just need to make some friends to invite to the bunco...

11. Become a member of the local library and actually use it.
I've borrowed a few different books, cookbooks mostly.

12. Host a ritzy cocktail party.

13. Keep a plant alive for more than a month.
Almost 2 months before it started to die!

14. Use snail mail to communicate with family & friends.
I just wish I got mail back...ahem...Bri and Anna...

15. Go to the symphony.
It was awesome!

16. Go wine tasting.

17. Visit a state I have not been to.
Texas and New Mexico thanks to Carrie.

18. Actively seek new friends.

19. Attend a concert.

20. Drink more water.

21. Make healthier food choices.

22. Finish unpacking! Can you believe I'm still not completely unpacked?

23. Find a church I am happy at.

24. Go on a date. I may need some help finding a good man, so let me know if you know any...I need to work on this!

25. This one I have kept secret, but I will let you all know when I accomplish it!

TRIVIA

I've been really jealous of Bri and Anna going to trivia once a week, so I decided I would try to find something similar in San Diego. Well, I did. It's called Pub Quiz and it's held at Dublin Square (awesome right?) downtown every Tuesday night.

So I grabbed a group of coworkers tonight and headed down. We had a BLAST playing. It was four rounds worth and the team with the highest score wins. And WE WON! What a great way to start off our trivia challenge! We have decided we will go every week, since we won a gift certificate to the bar...we kind of have to go back!

And now that we know how it works, we can brush up on our trivia to be even better!

Woot!

And now, bed time.

Revisited

Hello world! Now that my life has changed dramatically with many of my friends graduating, I have decided to revist my blog and use it regularly.

A quick update:

To comment on my previous post, 2008 really has been a tough year for me. With the flood, the glasses situation, work as been really stressful this semester, my friends graduating and moving away, and most recently- my tire blow out and dental work...it hasn't been the best year of my life.

But...things are going okay. I can't complain too much. I have amazing friends (even if they don't live near me), a loving family, an apartment I love, great coworkers, and a job that may be stressful but it oh so rewarding at the same time. Really, who could ask for more? Well...a man would be nice...but I'm workin' on it.

Also, I have decided to revisit my 25 things to do before I turn 25 and revamp them. Check back later for more on that. :)

Apartment Update

The past week has been rough for me. Seriously, 2008 has not been great to me.

Last Wednesday I came home to find my apartment had flooded. So, I had to call a plumber to come out and fix everything. On Thursday my carpet was taken out and I had to pack up my entire living room. All weekend I functioned with no carpet. I was originally going to head out, get a little shopping done, possibly go visit my sister, etc. Well, Saturday morning I woke up and found that I had riped my last right contact. Awesome. So I've worn my stupid broken glasses all weekend (both handles are broken off and duct taped on).

Well, I have had some drama with my insurance in the past, but I'm all set and covered now. So, this morning I called and made an eye doctors appointment for tomorrow morning at 10:30. Hopefully everything will go okay and I can get to work by 12:30.

What this has taught me: Don't wait until the last minute to do things.
